What is Sorting District?

When the third digit of PIN is combined together with the first two digits, then it shows a specific geographical region which is also called Sorting District.

Note this does not apply to the case of the functional zone of the Army.

This sorting district which is actually often headquartered in the main post office of that region of a big city. It is also called Sorting Office.

What is Service Route?

The fourth digit of the pincode indicates the service route, in which a delivery office is located in a sorting district. This number is 0 for those offices which are located in the core area of ​​the Sorting District.

What is Delivery Office?

The last two digits of the Pincode indicate the delivery office of a sorting district. It starts with 01 which is of General Post Office (GPO) or head office (HO).

The numbering of the Delivery Office is done completely in a prescribed order in which higher numbers are assigned to the new Delivery Offices.
